The Autonomous Vehicle Act 2024 (AV Act) aims to regulate the future use of autonomous vehicles in the UK but stops short of authorizing their operation. The Act allows the Secretary of State to grant authorization later, contingent upon the establishment of safety principles. A call for evidence was launched on June 10, 2025, to gather input for these safety principles, which will guide deployment checks, monitoring compliance, and annual performance assessments.
