Bookies' representative body vows to co-operate with probe
Briefly

An Garda Síochána's National Economic Crime Bureau and the CCPC are conducting an investigation into potential anti-competition practices within the Irish betting industry. This follows unannounced searches at betting businesses by the CCPC, which has encouraged those with relevant information to come forward, even offering 'cartel immunity' for cooperation. Major betting companies have refrained from commenting on the investigation, and the Irish Bookmakers Association asserts compliance with legal standards. The CCPC emphasizes its authority to investigate and conduct searches when necessary, emphasizing transparent criminal investigations in the betting sector.
The CCPC has the power to carry out unannounced searches of business premises and private homes with a search warrant issued by the district court.
The CCPC is now appealing to anyone with information about possible anti-competition practices in betting shops to come forward and suggested that it could offer "cartel immunity" to those who cooperate.
In a statement, the Irish Bookmakers Association stated that it has "consistently operated in full compliance" with legal and regulatory requirements.
The CCPC will search for information and evidence where it has reason to believe that companies or individuals are not compliant with competition or consumer protection law.
