The ICO emphasizes that while AI can improve recruitment efficiency, it can pose serious risks to jobseekers, particularly regarding privacy and fairness in processing personal data.
"AI can bring real benefits to the hiring process, but it also introduces new risks that may cause harm to jobseekers if it is not used lawfully and fairly," said Ian Hulme.
The ICO's guidance includes nearly 300 recommendations aimed at ensuring fairness, transparency, and proper data management when using AI in recruitment.
Organizations must complete a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) to identify and mitigate potential privacy risks associated with AI recruitment tools.
