Target's foot traffic declined 3.3% year over year in August, marking the seventh straight monthly drop, with the week beginning August 25 falling 4.6%. Rival Costco saw foot traffic rise 5.2% year over year in August, while Walmart was down 0.6%. The boycott of Target, led by black clergy since March, gained new support when the American Federation of Teachers and the Chicago Teachers Union joined on Labor Day. The unions cited Target's rollback of some diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives after a January political pledge. The AFT represents about 1.8 million teachers and other workers.
