Seattle Cold Brew Brand Fights Nestle Trademark Petition
Briefly

Seattle Strong, a Seattle-based cold brew brand, is combating a trademark cancellation petition from Nestlé, which owns Seattle's Best Coffee. Nestlé argues that both brand trademarks are similar and cover identical goods, risking consumer confusion. Seattle Strong, which originated from a University of Washington project in 2017, aims to maintain its branding despite the legal challenge. Founder Evan Oeflein expressed determination to fight against corporate overreach and cited the company's grassroots beginnings in Seattle. They have initiated a Gofundme campaign to support their legal costs against Nestlé's claims.
"When a monolithic corporation like Nestlé tries to take away our right to call ourselves 'Seattle Strong,' we have no choice but to stand up," Seattle Strong Founder Evan Oeflein said. "We built this company from the ground up in the city we love, and we won't back down."
Nestlé stated that the trademarks of the two brands are similar and the goods covered under the marks are 'identical,' which means 'consumers will likely be confused, mistaken, or deceived as to the source of the parties' respective goods.'
