In his latest book, Nexus, Yuval Noah Harari warns about the implications of AI and its potential to foster techno-fascism, especially post the recent US election. He argues that while past beliefs equated knowledge with peace, this view is overly simplistic; indeed, much of the information spread today is false. As AI evolves, it introduces significant risks to democratic frameworks, as those with power might exploit AI for manipulation, thus compromising truth and ground-level democracy.
Information is not the same as truth. Most of the information we consume is mis- or disinformation, and in an age of AI, that can lead to dire consequences for society.
As AI technologies advance, there will be challenges in maintaining democratic structures if those in power utilize this technology to manipulate truth for their benefit.
