"Young people continue to not use Facebook," Social media expert Andrew Selepak said in reaction to the survey. "They're not getting into that pipeline. ... That should be very worrying for Facebook," he said.
Adults are more likely to use social media to keep up with distant friends and family, Selepak said. Teens still live with their core families - parents and siblings - and they see their friends at school all the time.
