U.S. Olympian swimmer earns 'just enough' to cover her rent-she's turned to social media for more cash | Fortune
""I get just enough to cover my rent a month," she told the . "It's not enough to be a career and this is a full-time job.""
""On social media, I can make more than five times as much as what I make as an Olympic athlete each month," Ramirez told Fortune."
""My primary job right now-the thing that makes the most money-is definitely TikTok, Instagram, and all my social media handles," she told the BBC. "You can do things on your own time, on your own schedule, make ends meet, and get to do your sport full-time.""
Daniella Ramirez, a 24-year-old U.S. synchronized swimmer and 2024 Paris Olympics silver medalist, still earns only enough to cover rent. She trains at minimum from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., including weekends, which makes a traditional job impractical. Ramirez reports that social media income, driven by nearly 550,000 TikTok followers and ASMR-style videos, brings in more than five times her athlete pay. She has been on the national team for eight years and only began receiving athlete pay three years ago. Major sponsorships remain concentrated among a few high-profile athletes.
