Sylvie Corbelin, a jewelry designer, found profound inspiration in a conversation overheard at France's Musee Guimet. A woman's remark about the transformative nature of snakes prompted Corbelin to design a snake-themed jewel, which marked the beginning of her brand. The snake motif has become a staple in her collections, including a luxurious 18-karat gold ring crafted for the upcoming Year of the Snake, featuring a rare 72.5-carat pink tourmaline. This design not only showcases Corbelin's artistic evolution but also reflects cultural significance tied to ancient traditions.
The snake is like a human: To grow, it has to lose something,' Ms. Corbelin said. This phrase gave me such an emotion that I started to design a snake.
The serpent that Ms. Corbelin sketched that day was the first jewel she created under her own brand name, inspiring her logo that features two snakes in an embrace.
The coiled snake has appeared in countless of Ms. Corbelin's designs...including an 18-karat gold ring created for the Year of the Snake, priced at $39,500.
The ring is set with an antique 72.5-carat pink tourmaline, which was traditionally worn atop the hats of high-ranking officials during China's Qing dynasty.
