Jeanne Fleming, the artistic director of the Village Halloween Parade, chose 'meow' as this year's theme after hearing Senator JD Vance’s remarks about childless cat ladies, highlighting current cultural trends.
The event will feature more than 35 giant cat puppets, unicyclists in cat costumes, and a samba drum line, transforming the parade into a whimsical celebration of feline themes.
Fleming emphasized that the theme is 'not political at all', focusing instead on capturing the cultural zeitgeist prevalent during the summer and what resonates with the community.
The inclusion of actor Andre De Shields as grand marshal, due to his role in 'Cats', underscores the parade's dedication to embracing diverse interpretations of its annual themes.
