Lt. Gen. Stephen D. Sklenka warns that US military communications are increasingly exposed to threats that could have catastrophic results. Speaking at the Modern Day Marine expo, he emphasized the need for quantum communications to protect sensitive data, especially that which is often shared on the unclassified networks. Although quantum technology is still in development and remains complex and costly, Sklenka urges the military to prioritize adopting it to ensure future communications are secure and guarded against adversarial access.
"We've got to figure out a way to get the promise of quantum communications in place," said Lt. Gen. Stephen D. Sklenka, who serves as the Corps' Deputy Commandant, Installations and Logistics.
Secure quantum communication offers unparalleled protection of sensitive communications by giving them unbreakable encryption, but that capability is still being developed.
