During my tenure as State Department special envoy to combat antisemitism, I emphasized the importance of recognizing that antisemitism is not confined to a particular political spectrum. Many ignore or downplay it when it emerges from their own side, leading to a dangerous double standard. This perspective hinders the fight against Jew hatred, which ultimately poses a significant threat to Jewish communities worldwide. It is imperative to collectively address and stand against antisemitism in all its forms, without partisan bias.
As I leave this position, I realize that labeling antisemitism as a left/right issue often distracts from the real and pressing danger that it poses.
The partisan nature of discussing antisemitism leads to a troubling dynamic where sides are unwilling to confront hatred that arises within their own ranks.
