Customs officers in Lima, Peru, discovered a man with a swollen belly carrying 320 tarantulas, 110 centipedes, and 9 bullet ants, all smuggled in plastic bags.
The bags, containing endangered species from the Amazon, were taped to the man's body. Authorities arrested the 28-year-old South Korean citizen.
Walter Silva, a wildlife specialist, highlighted the severity of the illegal wildlife trafficking in Peru, which involves millions of dollars and threatens biodiversity.
The tarantulas found on the man are classified as endangered in Peru's wildlife regulations, underscoring the ongoing battle against illegal trafficking of native species.
