Lloyd Macklowe and his wife, Barbara, began their journey with a $55 ceramic Tiffany vase paid in $5 weekly installments, sparking a passion for collecting.
The Macklowe Gallery became a hallmark for deep-pocketed buyers, specializing in French Art Nouveau furniture, Tiffany lamps, and renowned antique jewelry.
In 1997, the Macklowe Gallery marked a significant milestone by being the first gallery focusing on 20th-century objects to exhibit at the Winter Antiques Show.
Mr. Macklowe, who founded the gallery in 1971, left a legacy as a dominant dealer in decorative arts after his passing on September 7 at 90.
