For three weeks in May, a judge in Rochester, N.Y., listened to evidence regarding the ownership of a smiley woman drawing by Egon Schiele, ultimately favoring the Maylander heirs over the Lehman Jr. foundation and Rieger heirs.
The heirs of Heinrich Rieger and Karl Maylander, both Holocaust victims and art collectors with ties to Schiele, claimed rightful ownership of the artwork with evidence pointing towards their ownership before the Nazi era disruptions.
