Instagram adds student badges as social apps chase campus connections
Briefly

Instagram launched Schools on August 26, giving students an option to add their school on profiles after verifying enrollment through UniDays. Verified students can add a school or college badge and set visibility to fellow schoolmates, all followers, or opt out. Students can browse a directory of peers filtered by year or view the entire student body. Verification aims to create a safer environment for active students to connect. Similar campus-verification features launched on TikTok with UniDays, and the feature echoes Facebook’s early college-directory origins amid growing demand for in-person experiences and rising app fatigue.
At UniDays, we're committed to creating safer, more rewarding digital experiences for the next generation. We do this by making verification and digital identity a foundation, not a barrier, for young people,
We're proud to partner with Instagram to champion digital trust and online safety. This new feature, underpinned by our world-leading verification technology, enables students to build more authentic, meaningful, and secure connections online.
Get in, folks; we're doing 2005 Facebook again.
