A paper published in the journal Nature reveals that tropical storms in the U.S. are responsible for significantly more deaths than previously understood, estimating an additional 7,000 to 11,000 fatalities over the 15 years following each storm.
The study's authors confirmed that during the period from 1930 to 2015, tropical storms caused more deaths than automobile crashes, infectious diseases, and combat combined, changing the perception of storm impacts.
