"Oatmeal baths work by helping repair and restore the skin while locking in moisture and protecting it from further irritation. Conditions such as chickenpox, poison ivy, hives, or sunburn may cause blisters and oozing skin accompanied by itching."
"From my experience, using oatmeal baths had shown good results in most cases. Few severe cases needed topical steroid application or dermatology consultation," said Dr. Janet Lazieh.
"I would recommend the oatmeal bath as an easy, natural way of alleviating baby skin inflammation and redness," Lazieh told TODAY.
"Since the Bronze Age, oats have been used as a topical therapy treatment for dermatological conditions, according to the Journal of Drugs and Dermatology."
