Launch Apple Maps and you'll see that the screen is largely free of any extraneous UI elements...There's the search field, the current location button, the map type toggle button, and a small weather box...Winner: Apple Maps
The more buttons there are covering the screen, the more they take away from what you are there to look at: the map...Another reason many find the UI of Apple Maps to be better-Apple puts the search field at the bottom of the screen, within easy reach of our thumbs.
