One person dead. Huge tracts of forestland destroyed, covering almost 25,000 acres northeast of Athens, as major wildfires ravaged the northern suburbs.
The true extent of the damage is yet to be accurately determined, with the situation being closely monitored until the fires are completely extinguished.
Favorable conditions such as the presence of Lake Marathon for water reloading and a decrease in strong winds overnight have supported firefighters in combating the blazes near the Greek capital.
