The Philippines has announced the launch of a digital nomad visa to attract remote workers, aimed at boosting tourism and the local economy. President Marcos emphasized the need for a legal framework to facilitate this initiative. Following the signing of Executive Order No.86, the Department of Foreign Affairs will issue these visas to eligible non-immigrant foreigners. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, demonstrate remote work capabilities, have adequate income from outside the country, and maintain valid health insurance, among other requirements.
President Marcos confirmed the development in a recent statement, announcing, "To further boost tourism and economy in the country, there is a need to establish a legal framework to facilitate the entry of digital nomads in the country..."
Executive Order No.86 allows the Department of Foreign Affairs to issue digital nomad visas to non-immigrant foreigners who wish to live and work in the country temporarily.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, able to show proof of remote work using digital technology, and have no criminal record.
The new executive order emphasizes that applicants cannot pose a threat to the country's internal or external security and must not already be employed by, or within, the Philippines.
