The Liberty Belle steamboat and Tom Sawyer Island have permanently closed at Disney World's Liberty Square. They make way for a new attraction called Piston Peak National Park, inspired by the Cars franchise. This new area will feature a wilderness setting reminiscent of the Rocky Mountains, with various natural attractions like waterfalls and geysers. Tom Sawyer Island, a historical part of Disney World since its opening in 1973, is being replaced, reflecting the shift towards newer franchises with broader audience appeal.
Piston Peak National Park will be "an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers and impressive geysers" inspired by the Rocky Mountains.
While Disney resorts has a Cars themed world at Disneyland's California Adventure - Radiator Springs, Piston Peak National Park is entirely new and entirely different.
Tom Sawyer Island, conceived by Walt and part of Disney World's original offerings in 1973, will permanently close to make way for new attractions.
Disney fans can still enjoy Tom Sawyer's Island and ride the Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland in California and Tokyo Disneyland.
