Can robots work safely alongside humans? This one industry leader thinks we're not far away
Briefly

At Mobile World Congress, Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility Robotics, announced that their Digit humanoid robots are now capable of working side-by-side with humans without safety concerns. Currently, these 1.7m-tall robots can lift up to 16kg, with plans to increase this to 25kg. Their abilities focus on basic logistical tasks, helping alleviate labor shortages in warehouses. Johnson emphasized the role of generative AI in simplifying robot controls, allowing them to operate via voice commands. However, despite the hype around advanced features, practical applications remain limited to straightforward tasks.
According to CEO Peggy Johnson, "Humans and machines will work alongside each other without the need to segregate for safety reasons. We're seeing this with our Digit robots."
Johnson highlighted that current capabilities of Digit robots allow them to perform basic tasks like moving materials, stating, "We focused on what is actually possible today, and that is simple tasks."
