Beyond the Gates Brings Soap Operas Back to Daytime TV

Sheila Ducksworth, a Yale graduate, has long cherished soap operas, particularly Generations, which showcased a Black family. Despite the decline of the genre, she pursued a career in television with aspirations to produce a soap opera. In 2020, Ducksworth partnered with CBS and the N.A.A.C.P. to revitalize daytime TV and is now set to launch Beyond the Gates on Feb. 24, the first major daytime soap since 1999 and uniquely focused on a Black family, marking a significant milestone in television history.
Ducksworth's dedication over nearly 30 years culminates in the upcoming premiere of Beyond the Gates, the first daytime soap centered on a Black family.
Joining CBS and the N.A.A.C.P. in 2020 allowed Ducksworth to revive a genre she loves, leading to a major milestone in daytime television.
