At the Cloisters, Sor Juana's Words Ring Out in Song
Briefly

The Met Cloisters hosted a unique rehearsal for the opera Primero Sueno, directed by Louisa Proske and featuring music by Magos Herrera and Paola Prestini. The opera, based on a mystical 1692 poem by Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, is designed to take the audience on a physical journey through the museum's spaces, with different audience experiences in each room. Ronda Kasl, a curator at the Met, emphasized the significance of the performance, highlighting the organic blend of music and the historic setting.
'Primero Sueno is a processional opera that will meander from room to room, audience in tow,' said director Louisa Proske, highlighting the unique experience of the performance in the Cloisters.
The poem is about a soul journey, and we thought, what if we translated that soul journey into a physical journey at the Cloisters spaces?
Ronda Kasl, curator of Latin American art at the Met, described the rehearsal as exciting, noting how music filled the limestone walls and created an organic atmosphere.
