After 8 Years, 74 Countries, and 848 Flights: What It Really Costs to Live as a Digital Nomad
Briefly

Eight years ago, a couple transitioned from living in an apartment to a full-time digital nomad lifestyle, selling most of their belongings. With a focus on points and miles in conjunction with remote work, they have traveled continuously with no intention of halting. Over this time, they have accumulated over 1.56 million flight miles across 848 flights, averaging 195,000 miles annually. While the pandemic affected their travel considerably, they optimized their travel costs using points and miles to make their journey more affordable.
Over the past eight years, I've flown 848 flights spanning 1,563,051 direct flight miles. That's an average of just over 195,000 flight miles a year, equivalent to around eight times around Earth's equator annually.
Thanks to points and miles, we've been able to travel full-time for a fraction of the cost we ever imagined. Our journey transitioned from a planned gap year into a full-fledged digital nomad lifestyle.
