The Vox Pupuli collective has released OpenVox, a community-supported open source alternative to the Puppet configuration management system. Launched on January 21, OpenVox offers the same command set and modules as Puppet, though it currently lacks the extensive testing and validation of its predecessor. This project originated from Overlook Infratech’s packages after Perforce ceased public packaging efforts. Vox Pupuli aims to maintain compatibility with Puppet and has established a Puppet Standards Steering Committee to shape its evolution, actively inviting Perforce's involvement.
OpenVox is not yet tested to the same standard that Puppet is, which users should be aware of before adopting it as a replacement.
Vox Pupuli created a Puppet Standards Steering Committee to guide OpenVox's features and language evolution while inviting Perforce to participate.
