The partnership between SC24 Oxide Computing and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory aims to enhance on-premises high-performance computing with cloud-like services via innovative rackscale blade servers.
"We have a lot of mission needs emerging that we think are going to require us to have new types of services at the center, specifically more user facing ones," remarked Todd Gamblin, highlighting the shift towards more cloud services to address diverse user demands.
With 2048 AMD Epyc cores, 16TB of RAM, and an integrated backplane providing 12.8Tbps switching, Oxide's rackscale servers represent a unique approach to high-performance computing.
Although Oxide's novel hardware won't replace existing HPC clusters at LLNL, it is geared to meet the increasing demands for new services and cloud capabilities.
