WilkinsonEyre Wins Competition to Design Pedestrian Bridge in Toronto, Canada
Briefly

Designed to foster a connection between people and water, the Equinox Bridge in Toronto celebrates the sacred relationship between Indigenous communities and nature, offering a destination for meeting and connecting with the environment.
Featuring an elevated path inspired by the Port Lands bridge typology, the Equinox Bridge boasts a curved S-shaped deck with arched forms connected by sculptural fanning cables, providing stepped timber seating areas at either end.
The bridge's design integrates stepped timber seating aligned with summer and winter solstice sunsets, framing the equinox sunrise through the arch. It also incorporates Indigenous star constellations on perforated metal screens chosen in consultation with Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
Constructed with locally sourced materials and a carbon-positive approach, the Equinox Bridge aims to symbolize building connections with the environment and promoting interaction, enjoyment, health, and wellness for all living beings while contributing to reconciliation efforts with the city's Indigenous communities.
