The Victoria and Albert Museum will create a new South Asia gallery featuring the Kochi Ceiling and showcasing South Asian art across three historical periods.
Director Tristram Hunt noted that the collection is among the most significant in the Western world, aiming to engage diverse communities through South Asian art.
The rare Kochi Ceiling, depicting Hindu deities and narratives from the Ramayana, hasn't been displayed since 1955, marking a significant cultural revival.
With 50,000 objects spanning from 3,000BC to today, the new gallery aims to explore South Asian artistic production and its global influence.
