"When Brandon Mieske and David Valbuena first saw the quiet Beachwood Canyon house that would become their home, tucked within the Hollywood Hills, it felt like their wish list and reality had finally aligned. After years in Nichols Canyon-which was close to nature but a literal hike away from the nearest coffee shop-they wanted something still tucked in the hills, yet more connected to the city."
"The couple had already met designer Leah Ring, founder of AD PRO Directory firm Another Human, months earlier while bidding on another property that fell through. "By the time we found this one, she already had a sense of who we are," says Valbuena. That sense included Mieske 's life as an artist-his own paintings would eventually hang alongside photography by friends and thrift-store finds from their travels-and Valbuena's work as a graphic designer and motion graphics artist."
"The living room is a prime example: an olive-green leather sofa, a cobalt Moroccan rug that Ring says "lit the whole space up," and vintage Milo Baughman swivel chairs reupholstered to feel fresh. Above the sofa hangs a photograph taken by a friend-a choice that, like much of the art in the house, has personal roots. "We probably had more art than Leah needed to work with," Mieske admits."
Brandon Mieske and David Valbuena purchased a 1970s house in Beachwood Canyon, set on a cul-de-sac and surrounded by mature trees. The home retained sloped rooflines, expansive windows, and an original stone fireplace. Designer Leah Ring tailored interiors around the couple's artistic backgrounds, incorporating Mieske's paintings, photography by friends, and thrift-store finds alongside Valbuena's graphic design sensibility. The previous owners had modernized systems but left spaces white, allowing bold furniture, textiles, and art to define rooms. The living room features an olive-green leather sofa, a cobalt Moroccan rug, and reupholstered vintage Milo Baughman chairs, with personal artwork anchoring the space.
