theaster gates creates sonic and spatial immersion at prada mode pop-up in abu dhabi
Briefly

Prada Mode's eleventh edition unfolds in Abu Dhabi’s MiZa neighborhood, featuring a four-day pop-up with artist Theaster Gates. This iteration emphasizes dualities in art, architecture, and performance, presented through a multisensory installation divided into contrasting environments. Gates aims to evoke a dialogue between past aesthetics and contemporary technology, exploring themes of spiritual quietude and community gathering. Running from February 11 to 14, 2025, the installation aims to highlight the relevance of historic traditions in today's digital age, particularly in relation to Arab women's contributions.
This space is a reflection on the spiritual possibilities of quietude, the power of gathering, the contiguity between the aesthetics of the past and their relevance for the future, and reverence for Arab women.
The work examines ideas of elegant austerity, historic craft, and sacred immediacy, as it reaffirms the minimal and analog amidst the cultural dominance of technology and AI today.
