Sited among the dunes and pine forests, the Te Arai Beach House by Fearon Hay Architects is a pair of gabled sheds paying homage to traditional timber working sheds in New Zealand.
The design integrates sliding timber shutters to moderate light, air, view, and privacy, while the timber cladding is meant to age and silver over time, blending the structures with the landscape.
Inside, the use of timber continues, creating warmth and a connection between indoor and outdoor spaces with oiled timber providing a subtle contrast to the exterior, forming a cohesive whole.
The Te Arai Beach House presents a blend of sloping and flat ceilings, fostering intimate and spacious atmospheres, while strategic design elements offer a dynamic interplay of space and light, providing a contemporary cabin experience by the forest and ocean.
