Marco Capaldo: "I'm More of a Mad Scientist, Trying to Create Perfection"
Briefly

Marco Capaldo, co-founder of 16Arlington, drew inspiration from dark art to create the Autumn/Winter 2024 collection, 'I'm Not Sorry, It's Human Nature.' The collection, revealed in an artistic show at the Barbican, marries elegance with gothic inspiration, showcasing combinations like tailored black outfits and sheer organza with op-art prints. The project was significantly influenced by curator Charlie Fox and his thoughts on the societal fears surrounding monsters, encouraging Capaldo to question the real nature of monstrosity and explore human elements reflected in fashion.
Talking with Charlie and reading his work, there was a common thread about how monsters are seen by society as dangerous or abnormal, as things to be scared of. But it raised so many questions that really fascinated me. Who is the monster really? What if humans are the real monsters?
The collection, titled I'm Not Sorry, It's Human Nature, found its genesis moment not on a laboratory table but in an art gallery.
