The 'Wadi AlFann presents James Turrell' exhibition showcases the pioneering works of Light and Space artist James Turrell in AlUla, Saudi Arabia. This event serves as a precursor to a significant Land Art installation planned for the future. Featuring a series of tunnels and chambers, the exhibition highlights Turrell's fascination with color, space, and perception, creating a unique sensorial journey through the landscape. The exhibition includes his influential artificial light sculptures, setting the stage for the AlUla Arts Festival.
The outdoor subterranean oculi, called Skyspaces, will be 'cosmic observatories' that dissolve horizons and challenge perceptions of celestial light.
Visitors navigate through, under, and out of the earth, and between lightness and darkness, experiencing a sensorial journey of the land and the sky.
Turrell’s colossal installation will further explore color, space, and perception using AlUla's dramatic landscapes and its pure light as inspiration.
Above ground, the site expands into a planetary diagram etched into the earth, surrounded by mountains and crowned by an obelisk marking the sun's passage.
