"Porta Venezia is one of booming Milan's most sought-after neighborhoods. At its center is the new Hotel Calimala Milano, imagined by award winning architect Alex Meitlis as a historically sensitive homage to the Northern Italian metropolis and the Jannelli&Volpi wallpaper showroom that was once housed here. It's Milu Holding Group's fourth Italian property and second under the Calimala moniker. Like the Florence address, it closely reflects the mood of its surroundings."
"The wallpaper brand is known for its bold graphic prints, pictorial transfers, and floral patterns. The hotel reflects that eclecticism but in a cohesive palette of noble materials, sheen lacquered surfaces, and colorfully reflective backdrops. Nods to the original 1960s showroom are undeniable but so is Milan's uniquely elegant and slightly ornate modernism. "We wanted Hotel Calimala Milano to feel like a natural extension of the city," says Meitlis."
Hotel Calimala Milano occupies Porta Venezia and serves as Milu Holding Group's fourth Italian property. Award-winning architect Alex Meitlis designed the building as a historically sensitive homage to Milan and the former Jannelli&Volpi wallpaper showroom. Design draws on bold graphic prints and floral motifs through a cohesive palette of noble materials, lacquered surfaces, mirrored walls, and colorfully reflective backdrops. The 88 guest rooms, including four suites, feature glossy walnut built-ins, oversized spherical pendants, and graphic terrazzo floors made from locally sourced black marble. Clay pinks, citrus oranges, and minty blues accent lacquered curved bed frames and adjoining bathrooms. Sculptor Carmel Ilan curated artworks while Dafna Arnon's photographs integrate the surrounding city.
