Special Exhibitions for 2025 Beau McCall: Buttons On!May 10 - September 14, 2025 Buttons On! marks the first-ever retrospective for artist, Beau McCall. Proclaimed by American Craft magazine as "The Button Man," McCall creates wearable and visual art by hand-sewing clothing buttons onto mostly upcycled fabrics, materials, and objects."
The Museum of Craft and Design offers free admission on the first Thursday of every month from 10am to 5pm at 2569 Third Street in San Francisco. Free First Thursday dates for 2025 include June 5, July 3, August 7, September 4, November 6, and December 4, with October 2 closed for exhibition installation. The museum is closed on major holidays including New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4-5, Labor Day, Indigenous People's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. The 2025 schedule features Beau McCall: Buttons On! (May 10–September 14), a retrospective showcasing nearly forty years of button-embellished wearable and visual art, select archival materials, and new works.
