Daniel Emma's Parcel Portable Lamp Is a Gift to Lighting
"Meet Parcel: the portable lamp that gives present-on-Christmas-morning energy. Designed for Design By Them by the always whimsical Daniel Emma - the Adelaide-based studio led by Daniel To and Emma Aiston - Parcel draws inspiration from a perfectly wrapped gift, channeling that delightful thrill of a present every time you switch it on. "Parcel is inspired by the crisp packaging and satisfying shape of the perfectly wrapped gift; tidy and cheerful! We like to think of it as a present you get to open every time you switch it on," the duo shares."
"Known for their delightfully unexpected approach to everyday objects, To and Aiston have been creating what they call "just nice" designs since establishing their studio Daniel Emma in 2008. From brand collaborations and commissions to self-produced products and gallery editions, the duo brings their ideas to life across everything from tiny desk objects to large-scale installations. Their work often begins with simple forms that quietly subvert expectations - a nod to the diverse culture and visual cues that surround them in Australia."
Parcel is a portable lamp designed to evoke the joy of unwrapping a present, with a giftbox-inspired shade and cylindrical base for intuitive handling. The lamp is made from lightweight, durable aluminum and produces a soft, downward glow suitable for mood or task lighting. A gentle tap cycles through three diffused light settings. Parcel recharges via USB-C, operates plugged-in or cord-free, and can be fully disassembled for repair or LED replacement. Available in Maroon, Matte Silver, and Chartreuse, the lamp prioritizes simple forms, portability, and a playful, repairable design ethos.
