"Christ & Gantenbein realizes the exhibition design for Paris Internationale 2023-2024 at Poste Bergère-Trudaine, following their work on the 2022 edition of the independent art fair known for its nomadic character and commitment to spatial reuse. The architects propose a system of walls instead of boxes, replacing enclosed booths with open partitions that subtly guide circulation, creating visual and spatial permeability, and inviting chance encounters between visitors, artworks, and galleries."
"Each year, the fair occupies a different, often transitional building in the French capital, structures caught in an in-between state, awaiting renovation or reuse, and turns them into temporary frameworks for contemporary art. Through this strategy, Paris Internationale confronts one of the city's most pressing urban conditions, the underutilization and mono-functionality of its architectural stock. Swiss architecture studio Christ & Gantenbein intervenes using light, reversible systems that interpret the building itself as an urban space."
Christ & Gantenbein designed the Paris Internationale 2023–2024 exhibition at the former telephone exchange Poste Bergère-Trudaine using a system of open walls rather than enclosed booths. Bays open at both ends and set back from the façade create multiple pathways and visual permeability, allowing galleries and visitors to encounter artworks serendipitously; in some cases two galleries share a single bay. The installation uses elemental materials—neon lighting, simple wall finishes, and reused structures from prior editions—within double-height concrete beams and light-filled courtyards. The fair occupies transitional buildings to address underutilization and mono-functionality of urban architectural stock, employing light, reversible systems that treat the building itself as an urban space.
