The Beijing Performing Arts Centre combines three world-class venues—an opera house, a theater, and a concert hall—creating a cultural hub that celebrates both tradition and modernity.
We have always referred to this project as the containers for culture, drawing on Tongzhou's historic significance as a commercial hub while nurturing community and well-being.
The forms simultaneously evoke a theater curtain parting at the beginning of a performance, creating a narrative of anticipation and connection with the grand cultural experience.
This elevated platform extends the buildings' lobbies into the surrounding forested park, emphasizing the relationship between the interiors, the landscape, and the Grand Canal.
