Despite its significance, the bookstore, originally a reading room occupying 65 square meters, deteriorated into an exit corridor, losing its connection to the cultural tradition it represents. Kunqu opera is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, emphasizing the importance of restoring the bookstore to reestablish its cultural identity and significance within the community.
