An Athens Boutique Takes Its Cues From Geometric Jewelry
"The detailing and the impeccable mix of materials of Nikos' jewelry became the drive for this whole narrative, says Mavropoulos, the firm's founder and director. Much like a coveted velvet case that holds a treasured bauble, the designers set out to create a showcase just as memorable as the fine necklaces and earrings housed within. Located in a 1960s building, the storefront's asymmetric window framed with travertine sets the tone, inviting passerby to step inside."
"A gallery-like setting serves as a backdrop for the jewels. A custom oak floor made of blackened, brushed planks adds richness. Strategically placed display cases include a mix of mirror-polished blades and bronze connecting points, a nod to the gleam of precious stones. Silk wallpaper offers a soft contrast to the alloys in every corner, while a green marble tabletop provides a touch of bold color. At the rear, a cabinet is placed on a structural column, which produces a sculptural effect."
Katerina Dionysopoulou and Billy Mavropoulos of Bureau de Change designed an Athens flagship for Nikos Koulis inspired by his signature geometric jewelry and material contrasts. The storefront occupies a 1960s building and features an asymmetric travertine-framed window that invites passerby. Interiors present a gallery-like backdrop with custom blackened oak floors, mirror-polished and bronze display details, silk wallpaper, and a green marble tabletop. A rear cabinet on a structural column creates a sculptural moment, while a mezzanine wrapped in illuminated glass prisms houses a salon and viewing room with contemporary furnishings. An embossed aluminum facade and locally treated metal panels reference city walls and jewelry-box ornamentation.
