Transcriptional control of the Cryptosporidium life cycle - Nature
Briefly

The study identified only three intracellular stages in the Cryptosporidium parvum life cycle: asexual type-I meronts, male gamonts, and female gametes, indicating a highly organized program for component assembly at each stage.
The transcription factor Myb-M was pinpointed as the earliest determinant of male fate in Cryptosporidium, lacking genetic sex determination. Conditional expression of Myb-M induced maleness, overriding development, while its deletion impeded male development, significantly impacting infection.
