The article discusses the innovative use of liquid cooling technology in data centers, particularly in a new facility being developed by Start Campus in Portugal. The site, located in Sines, will be Europe's largest and most sustainable AI-ready data ecosystem by utilizing a man-made basin previously used for cooling a decommissioned coal power plant. With an emphasis on renewable energy and connectivity, Start Campus, in collaboration with Schneider Electric, aims to set a new standard in sustainable data center operations. The facility's design incorporates established liquid cooling techniques to minimize environmental impact.
The cooling was a bonus, to be honest, the two most important things that we looked at when we were considering 100-plus sites were renewable power availability and connectivity.
Start Campus has seen the construction of a sprawling AI data center campus on the Portuguese coast, built to be Europe's largest and most sustainable AI-ready data ecosystem.
