Sales of cottage cheese are booming thanks to a boost from protein-hungry social media influencers. Social media influencers are unwittingly promoting protein as the be-all and end-all nutrient, leading to exaggerated fears around protein deficiency.
But most of us in the Western world are getting far more protein than we need. Excess protein is broken down into amino acids within the liver, some of which are used to create enzymes, others turned into glucose.
