Effective Performance Engineering at Twitter-Scale

This is a case study of how we tried to solve a problem but ended up accidentally almost doing platform engineering at Twitter in the second half of my 12-year tenure there.
Highlighting the importance of knowing where to make changes - referencing Charles Steinmetz’s $10,000 bill to Henry Ford for a chalk mark and 16 rounds of coil that significantly boosted generator performance.
