DNA glycosylases provide antiviral defence in prokaryotes - Nature
Briefly

Bacteria have evolved diverse immune systems. Analyses reveal new antiviral genes present in microbial dark matter, accessed through environmental DNA screening.
Library of environmental DNA in E. coli unveiled Brig1, a unique defense gene. Brig1 excises α-glucosyl-hmC nucleobases from phage T4 genome to hinder replication.
