Datacenters have a public image problem
Briefly

The rise in AI technologies has spurred significant growth in datacenter construction, but local communities have voiced strong opposition to their presence. At the Datacloud Global Congress in Cannes, issues surrounding public perception were discussed. Key industry leaders, like Microsoft's VP Val Walsh, emphasized the disconnect between the necessity of datacenters and the understanding of their importance among the general public. Myths surrounding the functionality and necessity of these facilities contribute to this resistance, prompting calls for increased education and awareness about their critical role in supporting daily digital services.
We still have this lack of alignment from the general public as to why datacenters are needed, because they don't quite connect the fact that their entire life runs through datacenters.
People don't make a connection between the digital services they depend on every minute of every day of their lives and the fact that providing those requires industrial scale infrastructure.
