Eoin Macken, an Irish actor and director, stars in Netflix's 'Ransom Canyon', which premieres on April 17. Although Irish cowboy culture may seem distant, Macken finds connections to the genre, citing history and personal experience with horses. 'Ransom Canyon', based on Jodi Thomas's romance novels, features a complicated love triangle involving ranchers, addressing land threats and personal turmoil. Macken sees his character, Davis, as a complex figure with both good and bad traits, highlighting the storyline's emphasis on personal perspectives in relationships.
Irish people generally don't go abroad to go to cowboy camp when they're younger, but I feel like there's actually a large history of some Irish [people] in some of the older Western movies.
The interesting thing about that love triangle concept is that everyone's the important part of their own triangle. For Davis, I think that the most important thing about him is that he sees everything he's doing from his own point of view as being the right thing to do.
There's good and bad elements of his behavior and his personality, which inevitably come through in anybody's situation, no matter how much they try and pretend they don't exist.
I was drawn to Ransom Canyon because I liked the idea of being in a different sort of narrative, exploring complex characters and relationships.
