The second season of "America's Sweethearts" on Netflix highlights a significant development for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: a 400% pay increase for the upcoming season. This notable change follows the 2018 lawsuit by Erica Wilkins, which revealed the cheerleaders earned around $7 per hour and faced unfair pay practices. With the new compensation structure, veteran cheerleaders could potentially earn over $75 an hour, marking an overdue acknowledgment of their contributions. However, despite these advancements in wage, cheerleaders still do not receive health insurance from the team.
The cheerleaders' pay scale is based on experience, and the adjustments mean veterans could now be making more than $75 an hour, a significant increase.
Team director Kelli Finglass remarked that the wage changes are '60-plus years long overdue', recognizing the lengthy struggle for fair compensation for cheerleaders.
